Nottingham Forest are keen on signing a player or two this month with a striker seen as the priority during the January transfer window.

Evangelos Marinakis has never hid from his desire to sign a striker. He’s keen for Forest to cement their position in the Premier League table and qualify for the Champions League.

European football of any sort would likely be acceptable in the eyes of Marinakis. However, it would appear he’s keen once again to flex his ambition in the transfer market.

Forest have been linked with Matheus Cunha. He’s thought to be the club’s number-one target for this transfer window and it wouldn’t be the first time that Forest have done business with Wolves.

Morgan Gibbs-White has already endorsed Forest signing Matheus Cunha

The Brazilian player has rubbed Forest fans up the wrong way in the past. During a 2-2 draw in April, he scored against the Reds and proceeded to do the Morgan Gibbs-White celebration to wind up the fans.

Still, Gibbs-White would likely welcome Cunha at Forest. He got his own back in that game and celebrated wildly in front of the Wolves fans when he also hit the back of the net in that game.

Afterwards, Gibbs-White was quizzed on Cunha and claimed: “He’s a friend of mine. He’s a good guy, really good guy. Football is entertainment, and we showed that today, but as a team we are very frustrated.”

Cunha has bagged 10 Premier League goals this season. He’s being courted by a host of clubs in the top flight and although it’s anticipated the player will stay at Wolves, his future remains up in the air.

Cunha would be brilliant signing for Forest

This would be a bit of a statement signing from a Forest perspective. The real beauty of signing Cunha would be that he’d need no settling-in period as far as the Premier League goes.

Alongside Gibbs-White, Cunha could seriously thrive. He bring an element of flair and flamboyance to the final third, whilst he’s also a brilliant finisher, making it no surprise that he’s attracting interest.

Forest might not manage to get Cunha this time around. It could be a deal that is more likely to happen in the summer but if the player kicks up a fuss to leave, perhaps the Reds can land their man before the deadline.
