Nottingham Forest battered Brighton 7-0 at the City Ground yesterday as the Reds bounced back in serious style from a good hiding from Bournemouth last weekend.

Chris Wood bagged a hat-trick during the game. Forest striker Wood was praised by Jude Bellingham after the game and he took his tally to 17 goals for the campaign.

Stuart Pearce hailed Anthony Elanga after the game too. The Swedish performer registered three assists during the victory for the Reds and he’s in very impressive form at the moment.

It’s hard to imagine anyone being unhappy with yesterday’s showing. It would appear that some former players were also impressed, with Brice Samba paying close attention to the contest.

Brice Samba sends three-word message after Nottingham Forest win

The promotion-winning goalkeeper enjoyed a fine few years on Trentside and his antics always saw him endeared to the club’s supporters.

After yesterday’s win he took to Instagram to post three words and the Forest fans will love that he was watching the game whilst preparing for his latest game with Rennes.

Samba said: “What a season” and it’s clear that he still closely follows the team’s fortunes on the pitch despite choosing to leave when the club won promotion back to the Premier League.

Samba was linked with a return to Forest earlier this season. However, with Matz Sels playing brilliantly during 2024/25, the need for a goalkeeper during the transfer window has decreased considerably.

With Samba watching on from home, he might have been impressed with Sels who made two brilliant saves in the first half to deny Brighton.

He tipped a Danny Welbeck onto the crossbar and then saved superbly to deny Yankuba Minteh when it looked easier for him to score.

Sels and Samba are very different goalkeepers. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, with the current Forest stopper keeping 10 clean sheets this season.

Samba would have been a romantic addition to the Forest ranks. However, the ship looks to have sailed now and the player looks very settled in France playing regularly for Rennes.
