Who is Tyler Bindon? The ‘special’ EFL starlet Nottingham Forest are chasing on deadline day

Nottingham Forest looked set for a quiet transfer deadline day but their reported interest in Tyler Bindon has brought the final hours of the transfer window to life.

Forest have held talks with Bindon, who is currently starring for Reading in League One, over a deadline-day purchase that would see the centre-back remain at his current side on loan for the rest of the season.

With the disappointing update that Matheus Cunha had signed a new deal at Wolves, Forest will have to wait until the summer for Cunha so investing smaller sums into a top talent like Bindon could be a smart way for Evangelos Marinakis to maximise the deadline day rush.

It’s also possible that a young centre-back may be required at the City Ground as Liverpool have registered interest in Murillo ahead of a potential summer move that would leave the Forest owner scrambling to replace the Brazilian.

With the future-proofing aspect in mind, here is all you need to know about Nottingham Forest’s deadline day target, Tyler Bindon.

Who is Tyler Bindon?

Tyler Grant Bindon is a New Zealand-born centre-back who joined League One outfit, Reading, in 2023. Bindon was born on the 27th of January, 2003, making him 20 years old.

Bindon signed for Reading from the LAFC Academy, where he was living at the time but he never managed a senior appearance for the MLS side.

Tyler Bindon stats

Speaking to the Reading Chronicle, current boss Noel Hunt referred to Bindon as a “special” talent, which doesn’t seem hyperbolic when analysing his Reading stats this season.

Tyler Bindon’s stats for Reading this season

Bindon has a passing accuracy rate of 81.9% in League One this season, with his 3.31 accurate long balls per 90 perfectly suiting Nuno Espirito Santo’s counterattacking system.

Defensively, he is also solid, winning 73.1% of his tackles and 65.2% of his duels. Most impressively, though, Bindon is only dispossessed 0.11 times per 90 minutes, highlighting how secure he is on the ball which will greatly complement the Forest squad.

Tyler Bindon Height

Bindon has height on his side which will stand him in good stead if he were to step up into the Premier League. He is six foot five, which is the same height as Willy Boly and Nikola Milenkovic, so he’d be at home in most centre-back pairings at Forest.

Tyler Bindon Arsenal

In September 2023, the Daily Express reported that Arsenal had been scouting Bindon ahead of a potential move for the then-teenage defender.

Arsenal haven’t followed up on their initial interest in Bindon, though, which should give Marinakis a clear run at the defender on deadline day.

Tyler Bindon New Zealand

Impressively, Bindon has already been capped 13 times by New Zealand, playing alongside potential new club teammate Chris Wood who captains the Kiwi team.

Bindon has actually scored twice from defence for his national team, too, with both coming in an 8-1 demolition of Vanuatu in November 2024 with Wood also bagging a brace.
