Kevin Nolan shares who at Nottingham Forest told him to sign exciting talent Ben Perry

Nottingham Forest have enjoyed a relatively quiet January transfer window and that represents a very nice change of pace.

The Reds of old might have splashed the cash and panicked into buying players who weren’t needed or simply weren’t as good as what is already at the manager’s disposal.

Evangelos Marinakis wanted a striker. However, he’s been left frustrated with inflation taking over the market and having a detrimental impact on transfers from a Forest perspective.

James Ward-Prowse left Forest earlier today. However, with Danilo and Ibrahim Sangare both returning to the fold on Saturday, the on-loan West Ham player had become the sixth choice on Trentside.

Kevin Nolan makes claim as Northampton sign Ben Perry

The Reds have focused on getting some players out of the building more than signing players this month. Emmanuel Dennis has been linked with Blackburn, whilst Lewis O’Brien, Andrew Omobamidele and Joe Gardner have all departed.

Forest’s B-Team have been in fine form with Ben Perry putting the strings this season. Now, Perry has headed out to Northampton Town to continue his development with senior football in League One.

Nolan is buzzing with the signing and has shared that one Forest figure was behind him choosing to swoop on the City Ground to land the young talent.

He told the club’s website: “Ben is a player I know a lot about. Andy Reid at Nottingham Forest rates him very highly, not just as a player but as a person too, and we have watched him a number of times and have always been impressed.

“He is someone who we think can come in and have an impact on our squad. We’re pleased to have him in the building and we hope this can be the start of an excellent relationship between ourselves and Forest.”

Forest have done brilliantly to get youngsters out on loan

Gardner and Perry are players who could make an impact on Nottingham Forest in the future. Along with Esapa Osong, it’s great that they’ve managed to get some senior football and it could be an exciting future for the three players.

Nolan knows Forest well as a football club given that his son is coming through the ranks below the under-18s. With that in mind, he’s clearly dipped into his contacts and managed to get a deal for Perry over the line.

This feels like a very exciting loan for Perry. At 20, he will feel that he’s late in the day when it comes to going out on loan and that could make him a very dangerous signing for Northampton as the season draws to a close.
