Chris Wood picks the Nottingham Forest player who he likes playing alongside the most

When it comes to Premier League strikers there have been very few better than Nottingham Forest star Chris Wood over the last two seasons.

Wood was signed from Newcastle for £15 million in January 2023. His arrival was initially met with angst but after a pretty low-key first six months at the club, he came to life during the 2023/24 campaign.

The 33-year-old striker scored 14 goals last season as Forest remained in the Premier League and remarkably the talisman has taken his game to another level this year, ageing like a fine bottle of red wine.

Wood has been hailed by Alan Shearer this season. The Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer clearly recognises talent when he sees it and the Forest has clearly saved his best form for the back end of his career.

Eddie Howe has been impressed with Wood too. He didn’t really want to sell the Forest player but given a lack of game time, it was the striker who pushed to join the Reds.

Chris Wood names the Forest player he simply loves playing alongside

You know your form is good when French publication L’Equipe want to run an interview with you and that’s exactly what they’ve done with Wood ahead of tonight’s game against Arsenal.

Wood has been quizzed on his relationship with his teammates this season. Ultimately, someone has to provide the service for his goals and it would appear he really enjoys playing with Anthony Elanga.

The pair have been involved in a number of Forest goals this season. Both players have proved instrumental in recent months and they will continue to be important as the season draws to a close.

Wood said: “He’s so good at taking the ball out of his opponent’s hands and then calling me into action.

“He anticipates my moves, and I anticipate his. More generally the three strikers who are most often starting alongside me – Ant (Elanga), Morgan (Gibbs-White) and Callum (Hudson-Odoi) – give me excellent balls. And they have integrated perfectly into the system devised by Nuno.”

It’s clear that Forest are heavily reliant on Wood for a source of goals and ultimately the Reds need him to keep those scoring boots strapped on for a few more months.

Tonight, Forest face Arsenal. It feels like a game as big as the one from last month when the Reds played Liverpool and hopefully, Wood can do what he did in that game and score this evening.

Wood has been vital to the Reds and alongside Elanga he should always get a number of chances to score goals, with the challenge for the Reds to keep finding goals and one end and keeping them out at the other.

The experienced talisman is edging closer to 100 Premier League goals now and hopefully, he can get a little bit closer to that target tonight against Arsenal.
