Emmanuel Dennis hasn’t made a brilliant impact at Blackburn Rovers so far, with his latest disastrous appearance leading to a red card.
Dennis made a loan switch to Blackburn on deadline day, having failed to make an appearance for Forest under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Surprisingly, Forest declined a permanent clause in the Dennis loan, so the Nigerian attacker will return to the City Ground in the summer with very little prospect of being integrated into Espirito Santo’s squad.
Hoping for a fresh start after a frustrating period at Forest, Blackburn fans were encouraged by Dennis’ debut with an acknowledgement that he isn’t quite match-fit yet, leading to a hope that he’d only continue to improve as the season goes on.
Dennis made his home debut for Blackburn in a 1-1 draw with Norwich City, with Rovers fans reacting in anger at the display of their January signing.

Blackburn Rovers fans react to Emmanuel Dennis’s red card
Forest have been ready to offload Dennis since 2023, mere months after he joined the club, but only loans have been agreed thus far, with Dennis spending time in Turkey and at his former club, Watford.
Now at Blackburn, Dennis was sent off after spending just 23 second-half minutes on the pitch, leading to Rovers fans taking to social media to voice their displeasure.
One fan said: “Dennis is awful, two late challanges & a deserved red.” Another fan then added: “Dennis with some very bizarre decision making to say the least.”
Another Blackburn fan said: “Dennis let his teammates down there,” with one more sarcastically adding: “Well that was a good Blackburn career.”
One Rovers fan said that Dennis was “Lucky to still be on the pitch for that long”, with another adding: “The only thing controversial about the Dennis red card was that it wasn’t when it should have been, 20 minutes earlier.”
Even without the red card, Dennis’ display didn’t give much to Rovers fans to convince them that the deal was a worthwhile one.
Emmanuel Dennis struggled for Blackburn even without the red card
Local Blackburn media were happy with Dennis’ Blackburn debut, but it seems unlikely that such feelings remain given how disastrous the 27-year-old’s display was against Norwich City.
| Statistic | Emmanuel Dennis vs Norwich City |
| Shots | 0 |
| Chances created | 0 |
| Dispossessed | 1 |
| Ground duels won (%) | 1 (25%) |
| Fouls committed | 2 |
Contributing neither a shot nor a created chance, Dennis didn’t have the desired impact on the Rovers attack as the game was still finely balanced at 0-0.
In fact, he had the adverse impact of being dispossessed, with his low percentage of ground duels won showing that he couldn’t time his challenges well at all.
The two fouls committed led to the yellow cards that signalled his dismissal, giving Dennis a break in games to work on his match sharpness and attempt to win back over the Rovers fans, who must be greatly questioning his signing.
