Two of Nottingham Forest’s outstanding loan talents went head to head on Saturday, with Tyler Bindon’s Reading taking all three points from their visit to Dale Taylor’s Wigan Athletic.
Bindon signed for Forest on deadline day from Reading, where he remains on loan, producing commanding defensive performances on a weekly basis.
Most recently, Bindon drew Murillo comparisons against Birmingham City as a result of his ability on the ball, exciting Forest fans who still know little about the New Zealand international.
Taylor, on the other hand, is more familiar to Reds fans, being a Forest Academy graduate. Local Wigan media have been impressed by Taylor during his loan move, with the Northern Irish international directly involved in nearly half of the Latics’ goals in League One.
Shaun Maloney wants to sign Taylor permanently, which shows just how well he’s adapted to his new surroundings, which made the clash between the striker and Bindon particularly interesting. The Reading man came out on top, though, scoring the winning goal to the delight of his fans.

Reading fans react to Tyler Bindon’s game-winning strike
Experts on the player have said that Bindon’s composure is his most impressive attribute, but it was his reactions that were on display as stoppage time approached, instinctively slamming home his sides winner to the dismay of Taylor and Wigan.
Immediately taking to social media to celebrate their team’s winner as well as Bindon himself, Reading fans expressed their appreciation for the Kiwi centre-back.
One Reading fan said: “Tyler Bindon is UNREAL”, while another added: “Ten Tyler Bindon’s is all we need.”
Another fan said: “Tyler Bindon is the messiah and we’re still in the race,” and one Forest fan said: “Bindon, just Bindon, joke of a player.”
One added: “Bindon might be playing Champions League football next season”, while another said: “Tyler Bindon, what a man, I’m going to miss him so much.”
It wasn’t just the winning goal that had Bindon in the headlines, though, as his overall display up against Taylor was equally impressive.
Tyler Bindon was a class above for Reading against Wigan Athletic
When Forest were surprisingly linked with Bindon on deadline day, Reds fans could hardly have any expectations about the success of the 20-year-old. Now, though, his continuously impressive displays have him on the radar.
| Statistic | Tyler Bindon vs Wigan Athletic |
| Pass accuracy (%) | 48/52 (92%) |
| Shots on target | 4 |
| Aerial duels won (%) | 4/5 (80%) |
| Passes into final third | 8 |
| Dispossessed | 0 |
Against Wigan, Bindon completed a remarkable 92% of his passes, including eight balls into the final third to help Reading overcome a one-goal deficit.
The centre-back had a clear impact at set pieces too, with four shots on target coming mostly from set-piece situations, aiding his 80% aerial success rate.
Not a slight on Taylor, whose impressive impact at Wigan hasn’t gone unnoticed, but those back at the City Ground will be rubbing their hands about the prospect of Bindon’s future progression after Saturday.
