Nottingham Forest defeated Ipswich Town on penalties earlier this week to make the quarter-final of the FA Cup for the second time in four years.
Ryan Yates equalised after an opener from George Hirst to send the game to a penalty shootout and there, Forest bagged all five of their spot-kicks.
A brilliant save by Matz Sels from Jack Taylor saw the Reds through to face Brighton at the AMEX Stadium with a place at Wembley Stadium on the line.
Nuno Espirito Santo celebrated wildly at the end of the shootout. Clearly, the FA Cup is a competition that means a lot to him and he will be wanting to go all the way.
Anthony Elanga broke a record for Forest during the game and although the game was somewhat drab in parts, it was important for the Reds to get that winning feeling again.

Commentator claims Nottingham Forest have hit the jackpot with Matz Sels
Just as he was at Exeter in round four, Sels was once again the penalty hero against Ipswich with a place in the last eight at stake on Monday night.
Sels dived to his left to deny Taylor and spark euphoric scenes at the City Ground with fans now dreaming of the Wembley arch once again.
Adam Summerton commentates on TNT Sport and takes a keen interest in Nottingham sport in general. He’s a huge fan of Sels and after the game the other night he had praise for Marinakis and the recruitment team.
He posted on X: “Matz Sels yet another example of Forest’s superb recruitment – so many direct hits with their transfers. Sels adored at Strasbourg and has thrived given a second opportunity in England.”
Sels has made 11 clean sheets for Forest in the Premier League this season and it’s no surprise that he’s now getting his flowers from pundits and experts alike.
Mats Sels stats 2024/25
It’s incredible to look back to the start of the season and realise that lots of Forest fans didn’t think Sels would be named as the number one.
Carlos Miguel had signed from Corinthians and it was anticipated that he might be the man tasked with keeping goal for the Reds.
| Matz Sels Premier League stats 2024/25 | Total |
| Appearances | 27 |
| Clean Sheets | 11 |
| Saves | 84 |
| Accurate Long Balls | 196 |

Forest also looked at Liverpool stopper Caoimhin Kelleher but in the end, Espirito Santo was happy to go with Sels and he’s repaying that faith.
Sels is now firmly established and although he’s 33-years-old, there is little to suggest that anyone is going to dispossess him between the posts any time soon.
