Nottingham Forest are going to be in the mix for a new striker when the transfer window opens in the summer.
Evangelos Marinakis was desperate to sign a striker in January but was thwarted amid inflated prices and the market proving tough to shop in during the mid-season window.
That could change in the summer, however.
Forest are being linked with Viktor Gyokeres and it’s clear that the club’s marquee signing will be a high-profile striker to add competition to Chris Wood’s place next season.
A number of players were linked in January. Yoane Wissa was the main player but Brentford didn’t want to sell and the same was evident with Matheus Cunha who Forest fancied from Wolves.
Now, the Reds might have been boosted in their hopes of signing one of those two players when the window reopens.

Forest hopes of signing Matheus Cunha boosted
Santiago Gimenez rejected Forest last summer and Forest will want to avoid a repeat of that when the window reopens.
Signing Cunha might prove to be far easier given that he has a £62.5 million release clause in his contract that will become active during the summer window.
Now, according to Give Me Sport, it’s believed that Wolves will accept cheaper offers than the release clause that has been handed to the Brazilian.
It seems for all the world that Cunha will leave Molineux when things do get underway in the summer, with Arsenal and Aston Villa both previously linked with him.
Cunha is in fine form this season and despite Wolves struggling at times, he’s still scored 15 goals in all competitions during the current campaign.
Forest may have bigger fish to fry than Cunha this summer
At 25, Cunha does fit the profile of a Forest signing brilliantly but £62.5 million is a lot of money.
Although it’s now claimed that the fee might be cheaper than what’s actually written in his contract, it would still cost a fortune to prise him out of Molineux.
Forest may fancy landing a player like Cunha who can play anywhere across the front three but there could be better value on the continent or in South America.
The Reds will definitely need a new talisman to ease the burden with Wood and hopefully, a new forward can be signed as quickly as possible in the summer.
