Nottingham Forest beat Tottenham 2-1 on Monday to boost the chances of Champions League football coming to the City Ground during the 2025/26 campaign.

The Reds had to bounce back on Monday following successive defeats to Aston Villa and Everton had threatened to derail the push towards Champions League football.

However, this Forest team are made of stern stuff and Nuno Espirito Santo claimed a huge win over the football club who decided to axe him after just 17 games in charge earlier in his career.

Forest had a number of top performers against Tottenham, with Dejan Kulusevski hailing Matz Sels for his superb showing that probably warranted a 14th clean sheet of the campaign.

Alan Shearer raves about Forest star Elliot Anderson

Forest number eight Anderson scored the game’s opening goal, which was diverted into the top corner via a deflection from Rodrigo Bentancur.

Chris Wood ended a run of games without a goal by scoring the second for Forest with a well-taken header following a pinpoint cross from Anthony Elanga.

The Reds could have scored again in the opening 20 minutes, but Wood saw another effort disallowed after a marginal automated offside call went against him.

Shearer was impressed with Anderson, however, and he believes he absolutely dominated Tottenham during Monday’s clash in the Premier League.

He named him in the Premier League Team of the Week and said: “Ran the show against Spurs from kick-off, scoring the early goal and setting up Chris Wood for the one that was ruled out.”

This was a coming-of-age performance from the 22-year-old, and in fairness, he’s been a pleasure to watch in the Garibaldi this season.

Anderson signed for Forest for a steep £35 million in the summer, although some of that was offset by selling Odysseas Vlachodimos to Newcastle for £20 million.

It wasn’t anticipated in the eyes of the fan base that Anderson would become a mainstay in central midfield, but that’s what he’s done, holding down the shirt amidst a host of competition.

It’s quite scary just how good Anderson can become during his career and thankfully, it looks as though Forest can look forward to him growing as a footballer in the years to come.
