Pep Guardiola raises Morgan Gibbs-White concern with Nottingham Forest transfer ‘in the works’

Morgan Gibbs-White’s links with Manchester City grow, but there seems to be one potential stumbling block for the move.

The Forest vice-skipper has been on fire as of late, with some even claiming Gibbs-White has been better than Bruno Fernandes this season.

The 25-year-old’s impressive performances have unsurprisingly attracted a number of suitors, as seen by Man City’s growing interest in Gibbs-White.

City’s signings of Jack Grealish and John Stones suggest Pep Guardiola is a fan of buying England’s best. The Spanish boss, however, seems to have one concern when it comes to Gibbs-White.

Manchester City’s concern regarding Morgan Gibbs-White move

Gibbs-White wants Champions League football, and the Citizens could most likely provide that next season.

The English midfielder has never featured in Europe’s top competition before, and this is something that could raise concerns for Guardiola.

European football brings a packed schedule, and Man City may be anxious about how Gibbs-White could deal with the extra workload.

Sam Lee from The Athletic, who claimed Manchester City’s move for Gibbs-White is “in the works”, spoke on Guardiola’s potential concerns.

“Gibbs-White, a player that City are trying to sign, does not have that track record of playing every three days but City’s firm interest in him goes to show that there can always be exceptions.

“The adaptation to playing that regularly should be borne in mind if and when he does sign, though; it was something that Jack Grealish had to adapt to in his first season and it still affects Jeremy Doku in his second season at City.”

Gibbs-White injury record will be a positive for Man City

Despite Gibbs-White never having had to deal with the Champions League schedule before, Man City could be encouraged by the midfielder’s positive injury record.

The 25-year-old has only had one major injury during his career, suffering a broken foot in 2020 while on loan at Swansea.

Forest will undoubtedly want to keep their star man this summer, but if Nuno Espirito Santo’s side fail to qualify for the Champions League, their hand may be forced by City’s riches.
