Nottingham Forest have a number of talented youngsters coming through the academy.

Nuno Espirito Santo is excited about Zyan Blake, who’s excelling with the B team despite being just 17-years-old.

Nottingham Forest also have high hopes for Dale Taylor after his productive loan spell in League One with Wigan Athletic.

Steve Cooper has already told Espirito Santo to watch out for Taylor, so perhaps he could get a chance to shine in pre-season.

Perhaps the most promising talent of them all, though, is Zach Abbott and he made yet more history last night.

Zach Abbott made more Nottingham Forest history last night

Zach Abbott became the youngest player to start an FA Cup game at Wembley when he faced Manchester City last month.

Abbott impressed Espirito Santo and certainly staked his claim to get more opportunities with the first-team.

The 18-year-old featured for the B team on Wednesday evening in the International Premier League Cup final against Lyon.

Abbott played the full 120 minutes at the City Ground and scored the winning penalty, making history in the process.

It’s the first time Forest have ever won the competition, which is considered one of the hardest to win in academy football.

Abbott sends clear message to Nuno Espirito Santo

Abbott was the second youngest starter last night, and yet, he took the responsibility to take the all-important winning penalty.

The teenager sent a clear message to Espirito Santo, amplifying that he has the minerals and bottle to make the grade with the first team.

Clearly, Abbott is excelling with the reserve side, so it shouldn’t be long until he’s a regular fixture at senior level.

With Murillo potentially injured, Espirito Santo shouldn’t hesitate to hand him another start.
