Nottingham Forest were held to a 2-2 draw by Leicester City at the City Ground.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side knew a win would take them back into the top five after Chelsea’s defeat, but they conceded a late Facundo Buonanotte goal and now remain in seventh place.

Ibrahim Sangare produced another assured display, as did Morgan Gibbs-White, who put it on a plate for Chris Wood to put the hosts 2-1 to the good in the second half.

But, the sense around the City Ground is disappointment, with Champions League football now looking unlikely.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis couldn’t control his emotions as he stormed the pitch at full-time, appearing to berate the referee and then his manager Espirito Santo.

Nottingham Forest fans had a lot to say about the bizarre moment, which has outraged the media.

Nottingham Forest fans have a lot to say about Evangelos Marinakis after Leicester draw

At the full-time whistle, as the players were shaking hands, Marinakis came from the stands and stormed onto the pitch, initially making a beeline for the referee.

The Greek businessman then appeared to vent his frustration at Espirito Santo, who looked baffled by the incident.

Forest fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and slated Marinakis.

“Marinakis, you owe the lad a public apology for that. We’re all disappointed, but that is absolutely embarrassing,” @NFFCAsh97 said.

@FPLReadie added: “Absolutely pathetic end to the season. Well and truly bottled it. Those scenes of Marinakis giving it to Nuno at the end was embarrassing too.”

“Marinakis you absolute idiot. Do that behind closed doors. Nuno is now going to have to face the press and get grilled about that. He knows that is going to take all the headlines and just adds to the frustrations of that poor result,” @mallyslife_ posted.

@bailey_iw commented: “Love Marinakis for what he’s done with #NFFC but that’s absolutely ridiculous. Nuno loves this club, we’ve resurrected his career and he’s far exceeded expectations, so to f—— publicly shout at him? There’s multiple clubs that would take Nuno off us in a heartbeat ffs prat.”

“Europe is the least of my worries. We could go down next season. And now Marinakis hates Nuno,” @hannahforest said.

@ollieshone explained: “Marinakis has gone above and beyond the past couple of years, won so many people over and proved himself to be one of the best owners you could wish for, all to go and do that t—.”

Gary Neville rips into Marinakis

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville made his feelings known as he ripped into Marinakis on X, labelling him the incident ‘scandalous’.

“Scandalous from that Forest owner. Nuno should go and negotiate his exit tonight with him! The Forest fans, players and manager do not deserve that,” Neville wrote.

Marinakis had built up a brilliant rapport with Forest fans over the last couple of years after some shaky moments, but this seems to have damaged the relationship once more.

Although, it’ll all be forgotten if Forest manage to turn their season around and finish in the top five, which is still doable.

Two games left, with rivals Chelsea still to play.
