Leicester City fans were in full voice against Nottingham Forest after they scored the equaliser in the 81st minute.

It was a bittersweet day for Nottingham Forest. They drew 2-2 to Leicester City in the Premier League, which ultimately means they fell further away from Champions League qualification.

Alas, Forest’s point meant they secured at least European football next season. A remarkable feat given expectations at the beginning of the campaign.

But it could have been more for Nuno’s side, as the Foxes supporters reminded them that afternoon.

Leicester supporters taunt Forest about the Champions League

On the stroke of the 84th minute, you could hear the away end sing out to the rest of The City Ground, ‘Champions League, you’re having a laugh!’

This was obviously a jibe at Forest’s recent form and the fact they may now miss out on the elusive Champions League spots.

The Tricky Trees now not only need to win their final two games but also hope other results go their way.

It’s a grand shame, as it was ultimately in their hands.

Amid the disappointing result, the limelight was ultimately stolen by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis. The man from Greece was spotted at full-time angrily speaking to Nuno after dropping yet more points in England’s top flight.

Forest fans didn’t like Marinakis’ actions, and the same can be said for pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, who also criticised Marinakis.

Could Leicester’s chant have provoked Evangelos Marinakis?

No. It wasn’t the chanting that ultimately provoked Marinakis, but it was actually about the entirety of the last 10 minutes and the frustration of not being able to score.

Nuno stated what Marinakis said to him after the fixture to Sky Sports.

“It was due to the situation,” the Forest manager explained. “There was a confusion over the situation of [Taiwo Awoniyi].

“There was frustration to play 10 minutes with a player that had so much confidence and being positive that he’s going to score.

“We made the sub, then played with one man less. That causes frustration, it’s obvious.”

Espirito Santo continued: “Football, football is emotions. It’s difficult to control, especially when we had so much expectation today.

“The fans were incredible, we wanted to proceed the fight. It’s not in our hands now, we appreciate the effort of the players and enthusiasm of the fans.

“It’s not in our hands, but it’s not over.”

Forest now travel to West Ham in what is a vital fixture, and then, Chelsea await – in what could be a blockbuster final day in the Premier League season.
