Strikers are hot on the radar of Nottingham Forest this summer, with a marksman with a strong record among the options.

Forest have prioritised a striker in the summer as they look to ease the burden on Chris Wood, who has been a standout in the Premier League this season.

So much so that Wood has the best shot conversion rate in the league this campaign, but his 20 goals have not been supported by equal numbers from the rest of the Forest squad.

Liam Delap is of interest to Forest for his solid work at relegated Ipswich Town, but one striker from further afield may just pique the club’s interest further.

Nottingham Forest in the race to sign Valentin Castellanos

International options are certainly being considered, with Forest bidding for Baris Yilmaz a sign of their expansive scouting network.

Italy is the focus of this target, though, as according to La Lazio Siamo Noi, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are keeping an eye on Lazio’s Valentin ‘Taty’ Castellanos.

On interest from the Premier League for Castellanos’ services, the report said: “There have also been surveys from the Premier League. Wolverhampton are selling Cunha to Manchester United for almost 80 million euros [£67m]; they are looking for a top-level striker and have great resources to invest.

“West Ham are also looking for a striker to pair with the young Ferguson, after Antonio’s serious injury and especially in view of Fullkrug’s possible farewell. Keep an eye on Nottingham Forest too.”

The Reds aren’t alone in the race for the Argentine striker, then, but are certainly in a position to meet the Rome side’s reported asking price.

Lazio set tempting asking price for Valentin Castellanos

With European football secured, Forest are looking to spend serious money in the summer to see Espirito Santo build on the excellent progress of this season.

However, they might not need to stretch too hard to sign Castellanos as the report claimed that: “Taty – like no other player – can be considered unsellable, if important offers were to arrive, in the order of 30-35 million euros.”

At around the £30m mark, the deal could well be an intriguing one for Evangelos Marinakis when taking a look at what the 26-year-old has managed for Lazio this season.

Progressive passes per 902.45

What the Forest coaching staff would get with Castellanos is an incredibly active striker, who takes plenty of shots and is also involved creatively, as his 2.45 progressive passes per game have helped him earn eight assists as well as his 14 goals.

The clinical nature of Wood is an asset to Forest, so perhaps a striker who is more involved in the buildup play could be exactly what Espirito Santo needs as an alternative.
