Nottingham Forest fans saying the exact same thing about the decision to write to UEFA about Crystal Palace

Nottingham Forest have written to UEFA concerning Crystal Palace’s involvement in the Europa League next season.

Evangelos Marinakis believes Nottingham Forest should take Crystal Palace’s spot in the Europa League, with the Eagles not submitting the relevant paperwork regarding multi-club ownership.

Palace evidently weren’t expecting to win the FA Cup, which qualified them for the competition, so they didn’t make the necessary changes ahead of the deadline in April.

John Textor owns a 43% stake in Palace and 77% in Lyon, so clearly the governing body aren’t satisfied that regulations are being met.

Palace are arguing Textor doesn’t have a say on footballing matters, but nevertheless, it’s continuing to rumble on and here’s how Nottingham Forest fans have reacted to the ordeal.

Nottingham Forest make interesting point on Crystal Palace ordeal

Forest fans have taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to react to Marinakis’ decision to write to UEFA and they’re all making the point that he could simply be seeking clarity, rather than asking for Palace to be kicked out of the competition.

@RichardM8422 posted: “Forest have EVERY right to ask UEFA for clarification, if Palace are barred and Forest get their place then the whole pre-season preparation will have to be changed.”

“Zero evidence to suggest the letter sent by #nffc was anything but recognition of their finishing position and an expectation to move into that Europa League position if Crystal Palace were found to have broken the rules. Every other club in that position would do the same,” @Caz_NFFC explained.

“The time when everyone realises it really isn’t that deep will be a relief. We’ve not written to UEFA asking for Palace to be kicked out, we’ve asked for clarification on what’s going on as all this is also gonna affect us. We might be box office but we’re not that weird,” @JGNFFC_ added.

@Forest_No_22 commented: “Who exactly did Palace fans think would seek clarification from UEFA? Barnet? Orient? Aberdeen? Or the team that potentially takes their Europa place, benefits financially and adjusted their ownership structure accordingly? It’s a business after all.”

“You just know if the shoe was on the other foot clubs would be up our a— about it. Rumours its for multiclub ownership clarification & not specifically requesting to drop Palace. Win win really, if they’re out, were in, if they stay, our board doesn’t get reshuffled next time,” @SniffsWhite said.

@wortho965 stated: “I’m sure lots of teams have written to UEFA about Palace. It’s just more juicy to mention Forest and drag them down. I hope Palace get to stay in the Europa. Surely a compromise would be Forest and Palace trading places?”

The difference in prize money between Conference League and Europa League

Forest are quite rightly asking for a quick decision on the Palace situation as the competition they play in next season will massively influence their transfer budget.

Conference League clubs share a pot of around £241m, whereas the Europa League is almost double that, accounting for £478m.

So, quite clearly, Marinakis will be able to afford Nuno Espirito Santo a much bigger budget if they’re to replace the Eagles.

Marinakis has ambitious plans to make Forest a challenging European team every season and is willing to invest heavily in the squad, in line with PSR regulations.

A telling few days lie ahead for both clubs.
