Nottingham Forest and Sunderland make approach for Atletico Madrid star ahead of the Club World Cup

Nottingham Forest are going to be targeting new players this summer, and full-backs will be on the horizon.

Neco Williams got injured for Wales earlier this week, and given he’s right-footed, another, more natural option at left-back might be sought.

Harry Toffolo is leaving Forest after three years, whilst Alex Moreno has returned to Aston Villa after a loan spell that didn’t live up to early-season anticipation.

Ola Aina is the current right-back, and with Zach Abbott and Eric da Silva Moreira capable of playing there, it doesn’t feel like a priority position.

Left-back is another matter, however, and now, the Reds have approached a La Liga star ahead of next season.

Nottingham Forest approach Atletico Madrid star Reinildo

It’s hard to fathom, given where Forest have come from, that the football club are trying to sign players from giants like Atletico Madrid.

But that is the situation facing Forest, and journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Forest, Sunderland, and Leeds have all approached Reinildo.

The 31-year-old is leaving Atletico after the Club World Cup, and he will be allowed to move to his next club without a transfer fee being required.

Diego Simeone used the 35-time Mozambique international sparingly last season, and after 102 appearances for Los Rojiblancos, his time at the club is almost over.

Reinildo could be very useful Forest signing

Signing a player on a free transfer shouldn’t be viewed in a derogatory manner, with Reinildo very experienced and boasting European experience.

Forest need to make sure they have more depth at left-back and having Reinildo at the club to help Williams kick on even further makes a lot of sense.

Reinildo is an international player and coming to the Premier League might well be something that the player fancies at this stage of his career.

If the Reds can get this one over the line, it could be a very eye-catching deal and his pace could be a useful attribute with Forest’s counter-attacking style.
