Nottingham Forest can shock the Premier League by targeting these 3 wingers even better than Anthony Elanga

Nottingham Forest are about to be presented with a significant sum to replace Anthony Elanga, giving Evangelos Marinakis the chance to aim high with his targets.

Once the deal is completed, Forest should make £60m from the Elanga sale, enough to be a serious player in the transfer market this summer.

Nuno Espírito Santo already wanted two wingers, but these signings were initially thought to be squad options, with a higher quality option now required to replace Elanga’s 18-goal contributions from last season.

Given the ambitious nature of Evangelos Marinakis, we have picked out three potential Elanga replacements that could even be seen as upgrades.

Three Anthony Elanga upgrades Nottingham Forest could target

Johan Bakayoko

Elanga provided Champions League experience to the Forest squad, so targeting someone who has also starred in the competition could be a smart move.

Forest have previously wanted Johan Bakayoko from PSV, but the Belgian winger has been holding out for a move that would see him continue to compete for trophies.

There’s no doubting Forest’s upward trajectory, though, so the right offer may tempt Bakayoko, who has hit double figures for goals in his last two seasons.

The Reds won’t be alone in their admiration of the 22-year-old, but a swift move to replace Elanga would certainly excite Forest fans as Bakayoko has all the attributes to surpass the Swede’s ability.

Noni Madueke

Chelsea’s transfer business continuously baffles onlooking Premier League rivals, but their obsessive quest for new additions has left some top talents available.

Noni Madueke is up for sale at Chelsea and could be the perfect replacement for Elanga, with their potential pathways to the City Ground very similar.

Madueke has been improving at Chelsea

Elanga arrived at Forest having impressed at Manchester United without ever nailing down a starting spot. Madueke is similar, but the stats show that he has been trusted more and more at the London club.

After his best season in club football, Madueke could join Forest wanting to show Chelsea what he is capable of, an attitude that could seriously benefit Espírito Santo.

Harvey Elliott

This one would require a bit of a tactical rethink from the Forest coaching staff, but it’s hard to look past the immense talent of Harvey Elliott, given that he is open to leaving Liverpool.

Albeit more suited to a central role, Elliott has made over 100 appearances in his career from the right wing, according to Transfermarkt, and is just coming off a remarkable U21 Euros campaign with England.

The 22-year-old has never hit the same numbers that Elanga reached last season, nor does he possess the incredible pace of the Swede, but his ability to influence a game is undeniable and arguably more consistent than Elanga’s.

It may be a long shot, but Elliott’s availability must surely have Forest interested, with the funds from Elanga’s sale able to back up a serious pursuit of the Liverpool star.
