Nottingham Forest told they’ve been robbed in Dan Ndoye deal, ‘it’s true’

Nottingham Forest are set to announce the signing of Dan Ndoye, beating Serie A champions Napoli to the signature of the Swiss international winger.

Long before negotiations were advanced with Bologna, Ndoye had agreed personal terms with Forest, with the Premier League a clear selling point.

However, with Napoli also bidding for Ndoye, the prospect of Champions League football under Antonio Conte threatened the chances of the deal going through.

To the Reds fans’ delight, though, Forest agreed a deal with Bologna for Ndoye with all indications being that the Swiss winger was only interested in a move to the City Ground, something that has clearly upset those back in Naples.

Napoli were unwilling to meet Bologna’s Ndoye price tag, which gave Forest the green light to secure the deal, said to be worth an initial £35m with add-ons.

Expectedly, then, backtracking has now begun in Naples about how much they actually wanted the winger, with former defender Gennaro Scarlato leading the rather bitter-sounding reaction to Forest winning the race.

Speaking on 1 Station Radio [via Tutto Napoli], Scarlato said: “I saw Ndoye play and, honestly, he didn’t strike me as such a phenomenon. He’s an excellent player, with significant room for growth, but the figures are extremely high.

“And then, if someone prefers Nottingham Forest to Napoli, it means something’s wrong. It was probably also a question of figures, because at €40 million plus bonuses, plus a 20% interest on future resale, I think Bologna got the deal of the century.

“Napoli did well to withdraw, because those figures don’t match the player’s current value.”

Being annoyed that your club didn’t sign a player is one thing, but it’s bizarre to say that Ndoye isn’t worth the £35m that Forest have spent, considering how he compares to the £55m Anthony Elanga.

Nottingham Forest News revealed that Forest received £55m up front from Newcastle United for Elanga, with the potential for £5m more in add-ons.

Without any add-ons included, then, Forest have acquired Ndoye with £20m spare from the Elanga sale, a deal that looks to represent good value given Ndoye’s ability.

15 goal contributions puts Ndoye behind Elanga’s best season at Forest, but all indications are that the Swiss star has all the ability to reach the levels of the former Manchester United man, hence Napoli’s interest in him.
