A Nottingham Forest target now wants to leave his Championship club in a boost to Nuno Espirito Santo and his chiefs.

Nottingham Forest have renewed Morgan Gibbs-White’s contract and are now looking to bring in some top talent ahead of their European campaign.

Evangelos Marinakis is ready to spend big and is on the verge of signing Dan Ndoye in a £37m transfer from Bologna.

James McAtee is also in talks to join Forest, although, there is a gap in valuation with Manchester City, who want £35m.

Nottingham Forest are interested in signing a Championship player, too, and now there has been an update on that potential deal.

Nottingham Forest target Mateus Fernandes ‘wants to quit’ Southampton

Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Mateus Fernandes from Southampton this summer transfer window.

Fernandes, who arrived on the South Coast in a £15m deal from Sporting last summer, enjoyed a productive individual campaign despite suffering relegation.

The under-21 Portugal international registered nine goal involvements from midfield and is being tracked by West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Leeds United, too.

Now, according to TEAMtalk, Fernandes ‘wants to quit’ Southampton and will be allowed to leave for around £20m.

It’s understood West Ham are pushing the hardest at the moment, but there is a belief he prefers a move overseas.

Either way, there is an opportunity for Forest to land the wantaway Championship star.

Fernandes labelled Southampton’s ‘best player’

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, former Southampton midfielder Jo Tessem says Fernandes is Southampton’s ‘best player’ and is of a similar level to Romeo Lavia, who is now at Chelsea.

“Mateus Fernandes is on people’s radar because every week he plays his heart out, he is by far the best player on the football pitch from a Saints perspective,” Tessem explained.

“I said the same about Romeo Lavia. I didn’t think he would stay for a season in the Championship and he didn’t – leaving after a year – and he (Fernandes) is on a similar level, albeit a different type of player.

“He is becoming an ultimate Premier League midfielder and clubs are not going to let that go. He plays like a Premier League player. He passes like a Premier League player. He is quick like a Premier League player.

“He conducts himself so well in midfield.”
