Sam Collins will be hoping to make waves this season after his departure from Nottingham Forest.

The luckless midfielder was released at the end of last season after recovering from a broken leg to help the team win the Premier League International Cup.

Collins signed for King’s Lynn almost immediately after leaving Forest and it looks like a solid move for the 21-year-old youngster.

Nuno Espirito Santo allowed Collins to train with the Forest first-team on a number of occasions last season, whilst Steve Cooper did the same before him.

After leaving Forest, the player has spoken on those experiences and how they’ve helped shape him as a player.

Sam Collins picks best player in Nottingham Forest training

For a young player making the step up to senior football at Forest, it must now feel very daunting out on the training pitch.

Collins spoke with pride about his time training with the first team and was asked to pick out the best player from those sessions.

The youngster never managed to play for the senior ranks on Trentside but two players have been singled out for praise when quizzed on the best player in training.

He told the Forest Focus podcast: “I’d say Gibbs-White to be honest, some of the things he was doing, the flicks and just the raw pace and the explosion he’s got, he’s very strong as well for his size. He’s good with the lads as well, he was great with me and some of the other lads.

“The best one in terms of being great with the lads has got to be Ryan Yates, I’ve got to say that. Even when I was 14, 15, 16, he messaged me a lot, trying to give me tips and he was telling me how I can improve, he’s fantastic.

“But in terms of actual raw talent, where I was thinking this is incredible, it’s got to be Morgan Gibbs-White.”

Gibbs-White leads by example in Forest training

It’s great to have players in the squad who train exactly as they play and it highlights what Forest have managed to achieve by keeping Gibbs-White.

Evangelos Marinakis gave Gibbs-White a new contract at the weekend to end any speculation over a move to Tottenham during this window.

Marinakis praised Gibbs-White for his efforts at Forest and it’s great to think that the player will lead Forest into Europe next season.

In Gibbs-White and Yates, Forest have two brilliant leaders and the hope will be that more leaders emerge and start leading by example as they mature and progress at the City Ground.
