Nottingham Forest have burst into life in the transfer market, but Douglas Luiz remains right at the top of their wishlist.
With Forest set to complete a triple signing of James McAtee, Omari Hutchinson and Arnaud Kalimuendo, Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad is shaping up nicely for the Europa League.
However, Espírito Santo still wants midfield reinforcements, with Juventus’ Luiz the preferred option for multiple windows now.
Nottingham Forest News revealed that Edu is desperate to sign Luiz, but a fresh report has indicated what is holding up his arrival at the City Ground.

Why Douglas Luiz’s move to Nottingham Forest is taking so long
Talks are ongoing over a deal for Luiz after speculation that dates back to January, but Juventus are proving to be difficult to negotiate with.
It was suggested that Juventus need a replacement before moving Luiz on but even if that’s not the case, TEAMtalk have reported that another aspect of the deal is holding up progress.
The report said: “Luiz has reached an agreement in principle with Forest on personal terms and is ready to return to the Premier League, which has always been his main goal.
“The pressure is now on Forest. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are open to paying around €35m, but so far they have only verbally proposed a loan with an option to buy. To get closer to Juve’s conditions, they will need to at least consider an obligation to buy to be activated with simple terms.”
Put simply, then, Juventus are demanding a guaranteed fee for Luiz, while Forest seemingly prefer a loan move that doesn’t tie them down to a costly permanent transfer.
In the meantime, though, Luiz looks to be handling the situation professionally, given that he’s in the Juventus squad for their final pre-season game.
Douglas Luiz to Nottingham Forest looks set to drag on further
After Luiz skipped Juventus training, it looked as if he wouldn’t don the black and white stripes ever again. However, the Brazilian has featured for the Italian giants in pre-season.
Most recently, Luiz was named in Juventus’ squad to face Atalanta in their final pre-season fixture ahead of the Serie A season, perhaps reaffirming that they won’t allow him to leave without a replacement.
Therefore, the ball is firmly in Forest’s court to come up with a solution that suits the Italian side; otherwise, there’s nothing to suggest that they won’t keep hold of the Brazilian indefinitely.
