Swansea City fans love former Nottingham Forest midfielder Marko Stamenic

Marko Stamenic never really got a chance to play for Nottingham Forest. He was bought by the club and instantly sent on loan to Olympiacos.

Upon returning, he barely got minutes in pre-season, and Stamenic was put up for sale by Nuno Espirito Santo.

Swansea City were first in line to snap up the New Zealand international for a fee believed to be around £2 million. He is now set for a reunion with his former club.

The Tricky Trees drew Swansea City at the Swansea.com Stadium in the third round of the Carabao Cup, and the Jack Army have been raving about the player they bought from Forest, who got an assist in Tuesday’s cup game against Plymouth Argyle.

Speaking out after Swansea progressed, one fan said, ‘Impressed with Marko Stamenić, really missed his presence when he was taken off.’

While another echoed the sentiment stating, ‘Stamenic – felt he was one of our best players. Had strength against quite a physical side. Found a couple of nice passes, including his one to Vipi. Felt a change once he went off, would’ve liked Fulton to go instead of him.’

Another fan said, ‘Stamenić is f—— class! Proper proper player.’

After the draw was announced, one Swansea fan said, ‘Marko Stamenic is about to show them what they fumbled.’

Marko Stamenic will be hoping to prove Nuno Espirito Santo wrong

After making zero competitive appearances for Nottingham Forest, Marko Stamenic will certainly want to show his old employers what they missed out on.

Nuno Espirito Santo clearly didn’t have the player in his plans, and was sold without ever giving the midfielder an opportunity to prove himself.

The Nottingham Forest squad were noticing Stamenic’s quality, but with the arrival of eight new players, a move away was his best chance at getting minutes.

He has started life well at Swansea City, and fans of the Jacks are already loving his performances over his two appearances.

When Nottingham Forest take the trip to Wales in the Carabao Cup, keep an eye on Stamenic; it may be the first time many of the Garibaldi supporters get to see him in a competitive fixture.
