Evangelos Marinakis’ relationship with John Textor has been a key talking point this summer, but the Nottingham Forest owner has rejected Textor’s advances for a Reds star.
Despite having no involvement at the City Ground, Textor has had a remarkable impact on Forest’s summer business.
It was Textor’s involvement at Crystal Palace that saw Forest promoted into the Europa League, a significant moment that saw Marinakis loosen the purse strings.
Alongside this, the American businessman’s involvement in Botafogo has also seen Forest do business with the Brazilian side, to the point where Textor has made a move for a seemingly available Forest star.

Botafogo make move for Nottingham Forest’s Jota Silva
Igor Jesus and Jair Cunha signed for Forest from Botafogo early in the window, which has been followed up by Forest signing John Victor and edging closer to adding Cuiabano into the mix.
Going the other way, Forest sold Danilo to Botafogo, and according to Record, the Brazilian side has made a move for Jota Silva, too.
The Portuguese outlet has claimed that Botafogo made an offer worth an initial £16.5m with the potential to rise to £20m, but Marinakis and Forest have rejected the offer.
Coinciding with this news, Sporting have been making last-minute moves to sign Jota, with Record detailing yet another offer that Forest have rejected for the winger.
Sporting have another bid for Jota Silva rejected
Sporting have made loan offers for Jota throughout the window that have included clauses that could see the deal become permanent. However, the Reds have rejected their approaches, including their latest offer on deadline day.
Record detailed the offer as: “A loan in 2025/26 at a fee of €2 million, with another €2 million depending on objectives—specifically, €1 million if the winger played at least 50% of the Lions’ games; and another million if he scored 15 goals.
“The following summer, they agreed to a mandatory purchase of the player’s transfer for €16 million.”
Collectively, Sporting’s offer would be worth £17m at most but perhaps Forest are looking for a cleaner sale that doesn’t include conditional clauses.
