Nottingham Forest lost to West Ham United and then hours later tried to temper the frustration by announcing a new signing.

The easy way, the hard way, the Forest way. After thrashing Brentford in match one and then claiming a valuable point away at Crystal Palace, it looked as though the Reds were geared up for the campaign.

However, this 3-0 reverse at the hands of West Ham who had lost three successive games, was a setback and Nuno Espirito Santo will hold talks with Evangelos Marinakis in the coming weeks over his future.

Still, it would appear that today is all about getting the squad strengthened and last night, the Reds announced the arrival of goalkeeper John Victor, who has checked in from Botafogo to provide competition for Matz Sels.

Ross Wilson shares why Nottingham Forest signed John Victor

The Reds needed a new goalkeeper to come in and compete for a place in the team with Sels who has been brilliant since signing for the club.

The Belgian made a string of outstanding saves against West Ham and ultimately, he won’t be getting displaced as the club’s number one any time soon.

However, with four competitions on the horizon, Victor will recognise that he can get plenty of opportunities this season and it would appear that Forest have courted him for a while.

Wilson told the club’s official website: “John has caught the attention of many clubs after some impressive seasons in Brazil, so we’re pleased he has chosen Forest as his next step.

“Matz had a standout season last year, and we also have Angus and young Aaron in the group, meaning John joins a strong cohort of keepers that will push each other and will help each other improve.

“He arrives here hungry to make an impact, and we’re excited to welcome him.”

Forest would like a winger on deadline day too

It remains to be seen what other business Forest manage to get done before the transfer window closes later today.

Romano has handed Forest a blow regarding Dodi Lukebakio and ultimately, he’s now chosen to go to another club ahead of the deadline.

Another winger might be ideal, especially considering that Jota Silva is going to be leaving the club during deadline day if the stars align over a move to Sporting CP.

That would leave the Reds with three wingers and one injury could throw a spanner in the works once again when it comes to the squad depth.

Now, the goalkeeping department is sorted out, however, and Victor will now hope to push Sels all the way for his place in the team.
