Ange Postecoglou will be heading to Turf Moor with one goal in mind: securing his first win as Forest head coach.

The Australian was heard shouting at his players in the dressing room, and he’ll no doubt be hoping his side can bounce back from a disappointing Wednesday night.

There could be plenty of changes for Nottingham Forest, and the Garibaldi faithful will be hoping to see some of their new stars in action again.

Dilane Bakwa has been impressive in particular, and Ange will need his attackers to be on top form to break down the Burnley low block.

Now, Paul Merson has said what he thinks is going to happen when Nottingham Forest face Burnley away.

Paul Merson gives his Burnley vs Nottingham Forest prediction

Nottingham Forest have never won back-to-back games at Turf Moor, and with the last meeting at the ground ending in a Forest win, this record looms ominously over the game.

Ange Postecoglou desperately needs to get his first win as quickly as possible, as in his words, this is not a ‘project’ meaning he needs to start producing as soon as possible.

With Burnley being potential relegation candidates, it offers a good chance for Postecoglou to do so, but that does not mean it will be an easy affair.

Paul Merson has had his say, and the pundit via Sportskeeda has predicted a 2-0 win for Nottingham Forest.

Merson said, “Burnley have to come out and play their football in this fixture. It’s easy if you’re playing Liverpool at home, no one expects anything from you and you can put 10 men behind the ball!

“But after watching Forest getting dumped out of the cup, Burnley will look at this game and think they must look for a win here. And when you have to win games, you cannot sit back. I think that could be Burnley’s undoing in this game” he continued.

Burnley are known to play a low block in the Premier League, but if Merson’s surprise claim that they could actually open up to try to win the match is correct, then one man could benefit.

And that is a former Burnley player who is now at Forest.

Chris Wood loves to score against former club Burnley

One of the other side stories of this game is Chris Wood facing his former club Burnley.

The last time the New Zealander walked out in the red of the Garibaldi to face the Clarets, he scored two goals on the day.

The game also saved Nottingham Forest from relegation back in May 2024.

After scoring twice on the opening day, Wood has yet to hit the target again this season so far.

The striker will no doubt want to start scoring goals again, and his eyes will no doubt light up against his former side.

However, Burnley are a defensively resilient side, but if Merson’s prediction rings true, Scott Parker’s team could allow more space than usual.
