Ange Postecoglou is looking to instil his philosophy as soon as possible at Nottingham Forest, and Paul Merson is already noticing something about the Tricky Trees.

Ange Postecoglou has taken charge of three games for the Garibaldi, so his time to change the style of the team has been limited.

The Australian has said the staff will make the transition easier, amid claims from journalists saying Ange is already under pressure.

However, it now seems that Postecoglou did not need much time on the training ground based on what Paul Merson has now said.

Paul Merson says Nottingham Forest are playing like Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham

Paul Merson has said that he is already noticing the similarities between Nottingham Forest this season and Tottenham Hotspur under Ange Postecoglou last year.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday, Merson who is covering the game, was asked if he notices the same style from Ange as at Spurs and said, “Yeah I would say so. They have been very positive.

“When I watched Forest before under Nuno, they sit back and soak it up, soak it up and then they would have loads of pace on the counter attack and they were very good on the counter. These are going after Burnley and trying to play in their half.”

Ange Postecoglou will be delighted that his side have managed to adapt quickly, as his quest for silverware hit a snag against Swansea City earlier in the week.

It was only his second match in charge, so there were always going to be road blocks, but now they still have a chance in Europe.

Ange Postecoglou will be hoping style can guide Nottingham Forest to European glory

Nottingham Forest are third favourites to lift the Europa League, and Ange Postecoglou is a man who knows how to win that competition.

The Australian will be looking towards Wednesday night’s trip to Seville to play Real Betis, and the fact that Paul Merson is already seeing his philosophy in the Forest squad will be a major positive.

Real Betis made the Conference League final last season, and will no doubt be a tough opponent for the Tricky Trees.

But it could also be a fantastic opportunity for Forest fans to see Ange’s style against a top-quality opposition.

Nottingham Forest kick-off against Real Betis at 8 pm on Wednesday night.
