Ange Postecoglou delivers update on Nottingham Forest star Murillo, rates his chances of playing vs Real Betis

Nottingham Forest stopped the rot with a 1-1 draw against Burnley, although once again, more questions than answers remain.

Ange Postecoglou has problems to solve at Forest, and there is no sign of a victory just yet after three games in charge for the Australian.

Forest took the lead after just one minute and 38 seconds at Turf Moor when Neco Williams scored the Premier League’s fastest goal so far this season.

However, the Clarets struck back when Jaiden Anthony netted after just 20 minutes to restore parity for Burnley, who have started this season pretty well.

Paul Merson noticed something positive about Forest against Burnley and Postecoglou’s style will take some time to get used to at the City Ground.

When the team sheet was released yesterday, the big omission was that of Murillo. After the game, he was the topic of discussion for the media when chatting with Postecoglou.

Ange Postecoglou delivers Murillo injury update

Murillo is the heartbeat of the Forest back four, and it will come as very positive news that Postecoglou has delivered a positive update on the Brazilian.

With Real Betis to come on Wednesday and then Sunderland on Saturday, it looks as though Murillo will be making the trip to Seville after all with his comeback imminent.

Postecoglou told Nottinghamshire Live: “He (Murillo) should be okay for Wednesday. Being honest, he was close to being involved today, but at this stage, it makes no sense to risk players.”

“The medical team tell me he should be ready for Wednesday.”

Murillo will be huge in Postecoglou’s system

Although the Brazilian is already the team’s standout defender, his willingness to carry the ball out from the back could be a huge asset under Postecoglou.

Murillo was a huge part of Forest achieving European football in the first place, and it will be great to see him back in action as the Reds play in the Europa League on Wednesday.

His ability to drive from deep with the ball could be a real asset for Forest in the new possession-based style that the Reds are keen to deploy and it will be great to have him back.

Forest do have a duty to make sure he’s completely ready, however, and as Postecoglou says, there is little point in taking risks given how many games are coming up on the horizon.
