Jermaine Pennant delivers brutal Evangelos Marinakis claim after Nottingham Forest draw vs Burnley

Ange Postecoglou picked up his first point as Nottingham Forest head coach vs Burnley, but would have wanted to secure all three.

The Tricky Trees went 1-0 up thanks to Neco Williams’ early strike, before Jaidon Anthony equalised for the Clarets in the 20th minute.

Ange Postecoglou has already been told he is under pressure at Forest, and the Australian will be desperate to get that first win under his belt.

There could also be some concern for the head coach, as Forest fans have pointed out a flaw in Ange’s system.

It was a brave decision by Evangelos Marinakis to bring Postecoglou to the club, but now Jermaine Pennant believes the Greek owner will be thinking one thing.

Jermaine Pennant says Evangelos Marinakis could be thinking he made a mistake

Jermaine Pennant has said that he feels Evangelos Marinakis could be regretting his decision to sack Nuno Espirito Santo and replace him with Ange Postecoglou.

The former Premier League footballer was speaking on TalkSPORT following Saturday’s games, and said, “Getting rid of Nuno, even if you’re not seeing eye-to-eye, sometimes you have just got to bite your lip and do what’s best for the club, regardless of what kind of style you want to play.

“Getting rid of him, everyone’s scratching their heads. Surely you’ve got to think the grass is not greener. And now I think Marinakis is looking at this thinking I made a mistake.”

It is a rather harsh claim from the former England winger, given that Postecoglou has only been at the club for just over a week.

Marinakis will no doubt want success as soon as possible. His ruthlessness with sacking the last two managers, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Steve Cooper, is an example of that desire.

However, Pennant could be jumping the gun a little bit when it comes to what the owner will be feeling.

It is far too early to judge Ange Postecoglou at Nottingham Forest

We are only three games into Ange Postecoglou’s era at Nottingham Forest, and despite no wins, there are still plenty of positives to take.

New signings Douglas Luiz and Dilane Bakwa look to be fitting in, and we are already starting to see Ange’s style in action.

After going from a counter-attacking philosophy under Nuno to a more possession and front-footed approach under Postecoglou, the transition period needs more than a week to work.

Postecoglou needs a win as soon as possible, not only for his confidence and the team’s, but also to silence all the outside noise around the head coach.

The chance to pick up that first win comes on Wednesday night when Nottingham Forest travel to Seville to take on Real Betis in the Europa League. The match kicks off at 8pm BST
