Nottingham Forest want 77-cap star who ‘doesn’t make mistakes’, he wants World Cup spot

Sean Dyche wants to flex the ambitions of Nottingham Forest in the transfer market when the January window opens.

Forest added a number of players in the summer, with Evangelos Marinakis wanting to make sure the squad was well-stocked ahead of a campaign playing Europa League football.

The likes of Nicolo Savona, Omari Hutchinson, Dan Ndoye, and Igor Jesus have all made impacts, with Douglas Luiz, James McAtee and Arnaud Kalimuendo showing flashes.

Now, the Reds – on their third manager of the season – will re-enter the transfer market, and a legendary figure is currently on the shortlist, it would seem.

Nottingham Forest want Stefan de Vrij

The Inter defender is coming to the end of his career, but according to reports, Forest are one of the clubs keen to try and land him in January.

An uncompromising centre-back, De Vrij is down the pecking order with Inter and has made just five appearances all season for the San Siro-based outfit.

The 33-year-old has played 284 times for his current club, having previously spent time with Feyenoord and Lazio earlier in his career.

De Vrij has played 77 times for Holland across his career, and Dyche is keen to bolster his defensive unit by signing the player during the January window.

Rafael van der Vaart claimed that De Vrij ‘doesn’t make mistakes’ earlier last month, and it would appear that when called upon for Inter, he’s still proved that he’s capable of doing a job for the team.

De Vrij could be useful on a short-term deal

This could be a deal similar to the one that Forest completed when they signed Felipe back in the January 2023 window, with the Brazilian integral in reviving the club’s fortunes.

De Vrij is out of contract at the end of the season, and it’s hard to imagine him getting another deal with Inter, given that he’s hardly played for the club.

If the price is right for Forest, De Vrij might be ideal on a deal until the end of the season, with a chance for both parties to take stock in the summer.

De Vrij is a legendary defender in the Netherlands and with his World Cup place on the line, that could make him a very attractive proposition for the Reds in January.
