Nuno Espirito Santo creates unwanted history after leaving Nottingham Forest

It’s not hard to understand why Nottingham Forest fans were so upset when Nuno Espirito Santo departed after just three games of the 2025/26 campaign.

After steadying the ship at the City Ground, Espirito Santo led Forest back into Europe for the first time in 30 years last season, but things quickly turned south.

Espirito Santo fell out with Edu over a failed Adama Traore, and ultimately, that led to his relationship with Evangelos Marinakis breaking down.

After leaving Forest, Espirito Santo took the managerial position at West Ham and it’s fair to say that after 10 games, things aren’t looking overly positive for the former Reds incumbent.

Nuno Espirito Santo creates unwanted history

It’s fair to say that Forest declined towards the end of last season, managing to slip out of contention for a place in the Champions League when it seemed nailed on at one point.

Espirito Santo had clearly worked wonders to get Forest back into Europe, but even this season, things looked off after a 3-0 thrashing, ironically, at the hands of West Ham.

Now, the manager is in a spot of bother with West Ham, following a 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa, which saw them slip five points below Forest in the Premier League table.

He’s also made history when it comes to being the first manager to do something in the Premier League era and it makes for pretty grim reading.

Forest have moved on from Espirito Santo

Espirito Santo knows his stuff when it comes to managing a football team, but there is a sense that his plan B is merely to make sure that plan A is done better.

Forest fans got a little bit misty-eyed at the concept of Espirito Santo grinding out results with West Ham, but that was largely due to Ange Postecoglou stinking the City Ground out for the seven weeks.

Who was the Nottingham Forest Man of the Match vs Tottenham

There’s an argument that Forest are now in much safer hands with Dyche in the dugout than they ever were with Espirito Santo, particularly when it comes to enjoying a sound relationship with the owner.

No Forest supporter will offer any angst at all towards Espirito Santo, but this statistic doesn’t paint the former boss in a good light, considering he prides himself on his teams being defensively resolute.
