Nottingham Forest look set to try and bolster their goalkeeper ranks before the January transfer window closes.

Brian Laws slammed John Victor for his high-profile error against Aston Villa and after sustaining an injury, he was replaced by Matz Sels at West Ham on Tuesday.

Sels won a share of the Golden Glove last season but the 2025/26 campaign has seen him struggle to replicate that level of performance.

The Belgian was in fine form on Tuesday against West Ham and he is firmly established as the club’s number one stopper right now.

With Angus Gunn set to make his debut against Wrexham in the FA Cup, however, it would appear that Forest are now keen to sign another goalkeeper this month.

Nottingham Forest want David Soria

According to AS in Spain, Forest are keen to bring Soria to the club this month to compete with Sels for a place in Sean Dyche’s team.

Soria was wanted by Forest when Nuno Espirito Santo was still in charge during the summer, but Getafe were unwilling to let him go during that window.

Now, things have change it would seem and with the 32-year-old out of contract at the end of the season, Getafe could now be willing to cash in.

Soria has been called upon 18 times in La Liga this season proving an ever-present member of the team.

The stopper is a bit of a legend with the La Liga outfit, making 281 appearances for the club.

Spanish journalist Alvaro Canibe called the goalkeeper ‘colossal’ and claims that he’s led by example during his time at Getafe.

Soria would be a very short term measure

Although Forest might benefit from Soria for the remainder of this campaign, it would be another short term fix.

At 32, Soria is hardly going to be the club’s number one for many years and in the summer, it’s imperative that a younger stopper is signed.

The Spaniard would definitely be an upgrade on Victor as backup and Who Scored shows that the 59 saves Soria has made this season is better than the 50 made by Sels at Forest.

This signing wouldn’t be the end of the world, however, and if a new goalkeeper could be added it would at least make things a little bit more stable in that department.
