Nottingham Forest now being left in the dark by Lorenzo Lucca, new club now in the mix

Nottingham Forest are hoping to get a deal to sign Lorenzo Lucca over the line in the coming days.

The 6ft 7in Napoli striker has fallen out of favour under Antonio Conte, scoring just once this season after playing most of his football from the bench.

In 2024/25, Lucca scored 14 goals in Serie A for Udinese, and he might not be aware that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side after returning to parent club Napoli.

Forest had hoped to get Lucca over the line pretty quickly – arguably before the weekend – but now another club is in the mix and the striker appears to be stalling.

Forest left in the dark by Lorenzo Lucca

All of a sudden this deal has become just like the majority of deals in a January window, hitting a sticky point where the player isn’t sure what to do.

According to Sky Sports sources, Forest are still awaiting a final decision from Lucca over whether or not he’s willing to sign for the Reds this month.

Initially, it’d been reported that he was keen on the move, but the fact that his former club, Pisa, are now keen to take him has clouded the player’s thinking somewhat, and he needs more time.

Lucca scored six goals and claimed four assists for Pisa previously in his career, and with the club facing a relegation battle, he might choose to help them out instead of a move to the City Ground.

Forest must prepare to move on quickly

With a striker an absolute must if Forest are going to avoid relegation this season, Forest must have a contingency plan.

If Lucca was that serious about signing for Forest, it’s fair to say that the deal could probably have been done by now.

How many goals will Lorenzo Lucca score this season if Nottingham Forest sign him?

Let us know in the comments below…

The striker looks ideal for what Sean Dyche likes his teams to do, but it’s no good waiting any longer if Lucca is going to keep mulling over a move that he might reject anyway.

This one needs resolving very quickly but with every passing day it doesn’t get done, it feels as though it might not get over the line at all.
