Edu will shortly announce that he’s left Nottingham Forest and his spell at the club won’t live long in the memory.

The former Arsenal midfielder left the Gunners, where he was working as a Sporting Director, to take over the role of Global Head of Football across Evangelos Marinakis’ empire.

The work he’s done, however, has been largely drab – not just at Forest – and Marinakis looks set to announce that a decision has been made over his future.

However, after a Wednesday announcement, it seems as though, despite a number of mistakes at Forest, Edu did get something right last summer.

Edu proved right about Adama Traore

At the start of last season, Nuno Espirito Santo and Edu had a falling out over the head coach’s desire to sign Traore from Fulham.

Edu stood firm and landed Omari Hutchinson, whilst Espirito Santo walked away and took the West Ham job a matter of months later.

In January, Espirito Santo got his wish. He tempted the Hammers into signing Traore from Fulham, where the winger was ultimately relegated at the end of the campaign.

After just 12 games, Edu has been proved right to deny Espirito Santo his wish at Forest, with Traore ridiculously released after just two assists from his dozen outings.

Espirito Santo was adamant that he wanted Traore at Forest, and that would likely have proved a waste of wages on a player who is clearly beyond his best.

Whilst Forest look forward to another season in the Premier League, Espirito Santo will now look to replace Traore as he prepares for life in the Championship with West Ham.

Edu has to go without a doubt this summer, but he got the decision over Traore absolutely spot on.
