What Evangelos Marinakis is now doing as Manchester City chase Forest star Elliot Anderson

Manchester City are upping the ante in their attempts to sign Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson.

Prior to the World Cup, Anderson was the subject of a substantial bid from City, but the Reds are standing firm on their valuation.

The latest offer of £106 million rising to £120 million with a string of add-ons was rejected, and Evangelos Marinakis wants the valuation placed on the midfielder to be guaranteed.

Now, a further update has been revealed and it bodes well for Forest.

Evangelos Marinakis takes control of Anderson sale

According to TalkSPORT, Marinakis is now leading the negotiations with City as he looks to get them to pay up or walk away from Anderson.

This doesn’t bode well for City because, as Marinakis said last summer, ‘In the end, we always win’, and although that was tongue in cheek, the former champions won’t get the Greek owner to back down.

It’s also not really a surprise that Marinakis is leading these negotiations, given that he’s always done that when it comes to star players leaving the club.

The owner has the football club at heart, and there was never any way that he was going to be bullied into selling Anderson on the cheap this summer.

In a weird line from the article, it’s been said that Marinakis is keeping the other directors in the dark regarding the sale of Anderson.

Naturally, that seems like it’s included to sensationalise it, given that everyone at Forest will be under no illusions about how much Anderson is worth and there really is no need for Marinakis to discuss it with anyone else.

How much should we do business for when it comes to Elliot Anderson?

Will we get the £115m that Brighton managed to squeeze out of Chelsea for Moises Caicedo?

Forest need adequate Anderson replacement

If Forest do get the £120 million bounty for Anderson, it’s imperative that the Reds get the right replacement for the midfielder.

Hopefully, contingency plans are being worked on as the Anderson deal works through, and the club can waste no time if he does move to City.

Marinakis will not let Forest go short in the transfer window and with Anderson seemingly set to leave, it will be fascinating to see what happens in terms of incoming deals.
