What is a realistic finish for Nottingham Forest in the 2026/27 Premier League season?

Nottingham Forest have endured a turbulent 12 months.

It was only a little over a year ago when Nottingham Forest finished in seventh place under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Fast forward a year and Forest have just come through a relegation battle after sacking Nuno, Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche.

Do you think Thomas Tuchel now regrets not taking Morgan Gibbs-White to the World Cup

England looked devoid of ideas against Ghana!😡

Vitor Pereira is now in charge, and he’s been able to get a good tune out of the players, most notably reaching the Europa League final.

So after such an up-and-down period, what can Forest supporters realistically expect next season?

Nottingham Forest should be aiming for a top 10 finish

For most clubs that survive relegation, the objective the following year is to once again get to that magical 40-point mark.

However, it’s a bit different with Nottingham Forest, as last season’s poor Premier League campaign was partly due to the amount of change both managerially and in the boardroom.

Edu’s arrival unsettled Nuno, and the dominoes started to fall from there, so it’s hard to gauge how good this squad actually is.

Indeed, Evangelos Marinakis will no doubt be expecting a much better season after shelling out in excess of £200m on transfer fees last term.

Hopefully, some of the talented new signings will start to show their worth after gaining valuable experience in their debut year.

The imminent departure of Elliot Anderson will weaken the team, but if Forest can replace him with Lucas Bergvall, that’d be exceptional business.

A centre-forward is a top priority, and Pereira’s side are looking at Jean-Philippe Mateta, who would be another top addition.

So, based on the club’s projected signings and the experience gained from last season, a top 10 finish should be achievable for this side.

Since Pereira’s arrival in February, Forest have picked up the ninth-most points in the division, only one fewer than Liverpool, who finished in the Champions League spots.

There is good reason to be optimistic heading into the 2026/27 campaign, which kicks off on Friday, the 21st of August.
