Oliver Glasner could make Crystal Palace star his first Nottingham Forest signing

Nottingham Forest are set to appoint Oliver Glasner as Vitor Pereira’s replacement.

It’s a real statement of intent from Evangelos Marinakis, who clearly wants Nottingham Forest to challenge for Europe again next term.

Glasner’s arrival indicates that Forest will spend heavily in the summer transfer window, as he could’ve waited and probably got a Champions League job either in England or overseas.

A good appointment? 🤔

The project has clearly attracted him, so we should start to see some exciting arrivals in the coming weeks.

With that said, it wouldn’t at all be surprising if Glasner’s first signing is one of his former Crystal Palace players.

Oliver Glasner could make Adam Wharton his first Nottingham Forest signing

We’ve learnt to expect the unexpected with Marinakis, and we know he’s well capable of pulling off a mega transfer.

Although it hasn’t quite worked out so far, Forest beat several clubs in the race to sign Dilane Bakwa last summer, and it was also quite a coup to bring in Douglas Luiz at the time.

This summer, Forest will have a much bigger pull to attract even better players due to Glasner’s glowing reputation.

So, it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Tricky Trees go in for Crystal Palace star player Adam Wharton, who would be the perfect Elliot Anderson replacement.

Name one Crystal Palace star you’d love to see join Glasner at Forest 👀

Adam Wharton.

With Anderson due to join Manchester City in a £116m deal, Forest have substantial funds to find an adequate replacement.

Wharton would likely command upwards of £70m, and that’d actually be a feasible deal to do in this window.

Palace are a selling club, having sanctioned the sales of Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi in the last 12 months, so Steve Parish may consider letting the England international depart.

The 22-year-old has three years left on his contract at Selhurst Park, so this would be the ideal time to sell for maximum value.

Wharton had a very close relationship with Glasner and may be open to joining him at Forest to embark on a new project.

“The difference he has made in two-and-a-half years is incredible,” Wharton said about the Austrian boss earlier this year.

“Three trophies for Palace, the first three in the history of the club. Our first European competition and winning it – it’s unbelievable. He has got to be one of the best managers Palace have ever had.”

A telling summer window lies ahead for the East Midlanders.
