Why Bournemouth may have played a part in Vitor Pereira’s Nottingham Forest sacking

Nottingham Forest have brutally sacked Vitor Pereira.

Vitor Pereira was reportedly informed of the decision at 11:58pm on the 30th of June – two minutes before a clause in his contract expired.

That allowed Nottingham Forest to terminate the 57-year-old’s deal despite prior talks about the club’s pre-season plans.

A good appointment? 🤔

Former Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is set to replace Pereira as the new manager and is due to be confirmed imminently.

That said, here is why Bournemouth may have played a part in all of this.

Evangelos Marinakis may have been inspired by Bournemouth’s blueprint

Cast your mind back to the summer of 2023.

Bournemouth had just survived relegation after an impressive run of form under Gary O’Neil, who took over from Scott Parker earlier in the season.

Many expected O’Neil to be backed in the transfer window and given the opportunity to take the team forward ahead of his first full campaign in charge.

But, the Cherries made the bold and, at the time, controversial decision to sack him and bring in Andoni Iraola.

Bill Foley and his chiefs recognised that there was a unique market opportunity to replace O’Neil with a notable upgrade in Iraola, who had a glowing record in Spain with Rayo Vallecano.

Ultimately, that decision paid dividends for the club, as Bournemouth went from a relegation battle to a 12th-placed finish under Iraola, followed by ninth and most recently, sixth.

The Premier League minnows will now be plying their trade in the Europa League next season, and that simply wouldn’t have been possible if they hadn’t made the unpopular decision to sack O’Neil.

It’s very possible that Marinakis was inspired by that blueprint and decided to follow that same path by replacing Pereira with Glasner.

If the decision wasn’t made now, Glasner likely would’ve got a Champions League-level job and the opportunity would’ve been missed.

Plus, it’s important that Forest use the Elliot Anderson money to recruit players for a manager they deem as a long-term fit.

Evidently, they weren’t convinced that Pereira was going to be here over a number of years, with his deal due to expire next summer.
