Nottingham Forest make £20m bid for ‘fantastic’ striker who wins more duels than Chris Wood

The striker search at Nottingham Forest continues and yesterday was a little bit like an episode of Hollyoaks for Coronation Street.

It was claimed early on Monday that Santiago Gimenez was close to signing for Forest, with everything pretty much settled.

However, later in the day, it emerged that the move was once again on hold, with Gimenez not entirely convinced about Forest.

On Sunday, the club had been left disappointed when Eddie Nketiah decided he didn’t want to move away from London – despite a deal looking close.

Still, it looks as though Forest have other irons in the fire and the soap opera looks set to rumble on through to Friday’s deadline day drama.

Nottingham Forest make offer for Brentford star Yoane Wissa

According to the Daily Mail, Forest are stepping up their efforts to sign a new centre-forward before the transfer window closes.

Gimenez and Nketiah might be off the radar but now Wissa is the subject of a £20 million bid from Forest.

Wolves are also keen on the winger but they’re struggling to finance deals before the window closes this month.

Brentford are quite reluctant to let Wissa leave and want him to sign a new contract in the wake of Ivan Toney’s potential departure.

Wissa has started the first two games for Brentford this season, with Toney set to head off to play in Saudi Arabia in the coming days.

The 27-year-old has been with the Bees since 2021 when he checked in from Ligue 1 outfit FC Lorient.

In 112 appearances for the West Londoners, he’s scored 30 goals and registered nine assists for the Premier League outfit.

Wissa could prove shrewd addition for Nottingham Forest

A quick look towards Squawka shows that Wissa could prove useful and he won more duels than Chris Wood last season.

The Reds are now turning their attention to a number of players ahead of the deadline and Wissa is the next on the list.

Wissa is a player who knows the Premier League and Thomas Frank has called him ‘fantastic’ after he scored against West Ham in 2021.

This move would be a relatively cheap deal to complete and it remains to be seen whether or not Forest can find a way to do business with Brentford.

It does feel highly unlikely that Brentford sell Wissa and Toney in the same window and this could be another battle that Forest are unable to win.
