Nottingham Forest player leaves Ally McCoist stunned after his ‘excellent’ Chelsea display

Before Sunday’s clash in the Premier League, Nottingham Forest didn’t have a rivalry to speak of with Chelsea – but that might have changed.

A blood and thunder contest descended into chaos at times on Sunday as an exhilarating 1-1 draw was played out.

Andy Jacobs called the gameplan from Forest ‘cheating’ and Ryan Yates can probably rule out a card this Christmas from Enzo Fernandez!

A challenge from Neco Williams on Marc Cucurella sparked a mass confrontation and Chris Kavanagh did his own Christmas impression, dishing out cards left, right and centre.

It’s a shame the game became a little ill-tempered – one that saw 13 minutes added on – with Forest playing their part in a tremendous game.

Under Nuno Espirito Santo, the Reds look like a different animal. Jamie O’Hara had high praise for the Forest incumbent afterwards and his approach was spot on.

Chris Wood scored again and was praised by Ally McCoist – and he wasn’t the only player to earn some nice comments from the reputable broadcaster.

What Ally McCoist said about Nottingham Forest star Matz Sels

Noni Madueke confessed that Forest frustrated Chelsea. His effort did restore parity on the day and it was a shame that the Reds couldn’t hold on.

However, this was a brilliant point against a team who have been putting teams to the sword with displays of free-flowing football.

Both teams were indebted to their goalkeepers during the clash, with Robert Sanchez quick to praise Matz Sels.

McCoist was equally impressed and admitted on TalkSPORT (07/10; 07:47am) that the goalkeeper had caught his eye during the current campaign.

He said: “I will tell you something, they’ve got a solid goalkeeper, Matz Sels has been excellent for them. Wow, he was brilliant at Chelsea.”

Sels quietly starting to prove people wrong

Jeff Stelling has apologised to Sels and after Sunday’s game with Chelsea, social media hasn’t been awash with Forest fans demanding that Carlos Miguel play next time out.

That means that Sels must be doing something right. He’s taking everything in his stride and he was clearly delighted with his showing at the end of the game on Sunday.

Sels earned his coin at the weekend and in fairness, he’s been a largely safe pair of hands since arriving at Forest as an unknown quantity from Strasbourg.

Espirito Santo has placed his faith in the Forest goalkeeper this season and on the showing against Chelsea, the Belgian stopper is going to be the club’s number one for the remainder of this season.
