Nottingham Forest made a number of key signings in the summer that have already paid off, but there was one player who decided not to make the move to the City Ground.

Nikola Milenkovic and Elliot Anderson have only been at the club since the summer, but their performances in the red shirt have already made them fan favourites.

Nottingham Forest’s defensive record is partly down to the impressive nature of Milenkovic’s performances next to Murillo this season, with Nuno Espirito Santo raving about him.

Anderson was labelled a ‘cheat code’ during his time at Bristol Rovers, and his time at Nottingham Forest has been just as good, as an established member of Nuno’s side.

However, one player won’t be able to enjoy the current success of Nottingham Forest, as a Premier League winner turned down the chance to move to the City Ground.

Kasper Schmeichel turns down a move to Nottingham Forest

Kasper Schmeichel was the goalkeeper in Leicester City’s infamous Premier League-winning season.

It was reported that Nottingham Forest were interested in signing Schmeichel in January of last year, but nothing came of it.

Now, it has been claimed that Nottingham Forest tried to sign him again in the summer.

According to Ekstra Bladet (as per Sport Witness), Kapser Schmeichel turned down a move to Nottingham Forest to join Celtic.

Do Nottingham Forest really need a goalkeeper?

Well, at the time, Carlos Miguel probably hadn’t been signed so there was naturally a need.

However, Schmeichel is ageing as it is, so it wouldn’t have been a long-term move.

Matz Sels has really impressed recently with his performance against Chelsea being hailed by Ally McCoist as ‘excellent’.

An injury to Sels recently could throw Miguel into the depend now though, as it remains to be seen as to how long the Belgian may be out for.

Interestingly, a bid for Caoimhin Kelleher was placed late on in the summer, but Liverpool didn’t want Matt Turner and the fee was too low so they decided to reject.
