Nottingham Forest fought tooth and nail to sign a new striker during the summer transfer window but ultimately their efforts proved to be in vain.

Santiago Gimenez informed Forest of his final decision just days before the deadline and a long chase came to nothing for the Reds.

There was also Eddie Nketiah on the shortlist but after a chat with Oliver Glasner, he chose to sign for Crystal Palace and remain in London.

With Forest running dry of options, another link emerged as a target but Forest were unwilling to pay £28 million for Omar Marmoush with doubts over his Premier League credentials.

Nuno Espirito Santo had his doubts about splashing the cash and panicking, telling Evangelos Marinakis to keep his money and wait until January when it came to a new striker.

Striker linked with Nottingham Forest gets praise after international display

With the hours running down towards the deadline, another name that was mentioned for a move to Forest was Brian Brobbey.

Forest wanted Brobbey as an option should Gimenez, Nketiah and Marmoush all reject a move to the City Ground as the Reds sought a new talisman.

Ultimately, Ajax stood firm too, however, and the man praised by Pierre van Hooijdonk remained in the Eredivisie with the Dutch giants.

Tonight, Brobbey will likely be in action for Holland against Germany and ahead of the game, Julian Nagelsmann has heaped praise on the striker.

He told his press conference: “He’s physically very good. I brought him to Leipzig, but then I left, which was unfortunate. He’s not a classic striker who just stands in the penalty box and taps the ball in. He is difficult to defend.”

Brobbey fits the profile of a Forest signing

At 22-years-old, Brobbey definitely fits the bill of a player that Forest would like to see amid a change of strategy in the transfer market.

Gone are the days when Forest land players looking for one final payday and emphasis has been placed on lowering the average age and signing players with significant resale value.

Brobbey is actually yet to score during 2024/25 from five appearances in the Eredivisie and that definitely represents a small cause for concern.

Last season he was red-hot though, bagging 22 goals and claiming 12 assists as Ajax improved across the campaign to qualify for Europe in the end.

Nagelsmann knows the threat that Forest-linked Brobbey can provide tonight and it will be interesting to see if Forest maintain an interest in the youngster when the January transfer window opens.
