Nottingham Forest’s impressive start to the 2024/25 campaign will see them aiming for three points against West Ham United this weekend.

Nuno Espirito Santo and his side are proving a lot of people wrong in the opening months of the season as they sit firmly inside the top half.

Forest have impressed pundit Chris Sutton who has even admitted he is growing a real soft spot for them after watching them this season.

And at the heart of Forest’s impressive start to the season has been their New Zealand international Chris Wood.

The Forest front man is currently the third-highest goalscorer (7) in the Premier League only trailing behind to Bryan Mbeumo (8) and Erling Haaland (11).

However, Forest may have an issue on their hands with the 32-year-old’s contract set to expire at the end of the term.

What Nuno Espirito Santo said about Chris Wood’s Nottingham Forest contract

Wood has now equalled Stan Collymore’s Forest goal tally (22) in the Premier League with his brace against Leicester City last weekend.

But speaking to the media on Thursday, Nuno has insisted there is no concern within the club surrounding Wood’s dwindling contract.

“Nothing changes. Chris is okay, he’s doing fantastic for us. this is what is more important, what he means to have him in the team, his goals, his work, all things will have naturally,” Nuno told the media.

“There’s nothing. Nothing has changed, nothing has changed,” the Forest responded on contract talks.

The New Zealand really is impressing this season with pundit Troy Deeney admitting Wood is proving a lot of people wrong with his performances in a Forest shirt.

Chris Wood injury latest ahead of West Ham clash

Despite netting twice against the Foxes last time out, it was not a completely positive night for Wood who did pick up a knock.

Wood said it didn’t feel like a significant injury after the game when speaking to the media and has since had over a week to recover.

But Nuno played his cards close to his chest on Thursday as he did not give away whether Wood is going to be ready to start on the weekend.

“Morgan [Gibbs-White] is one of the players inside that group that we have to assess and see how he is. Chris (Wood) also, and Elliot and Jota. They have knocks,” Nuno said.

Considering Wood has now scored 63% of Forest’s goals in the Premier League, losing him for the weekend would come as a major blow.
