Kelvin Wilson says £15m Nottingham Forest player is giving him flashbacks of Nathan Tyson

Nottingham Forest have made a very strong start to the 2024/25 campaign.

The Premier League clearly weren’t ready for the Reds this season and right now Forest are fifth in the Premier League table.

A defeat to Newcastle has taken the gloss off the last month to a certain degree but nonetheless, it’s been an unexpected start by Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.

Forest have had a number of top performers so far this season.

Shay Given has given Chris Wood a new nickname with the striker bagging eight goals in 11 appearances during the current campaign.

Elsewhere, Murillo took some praise from Espirito Santo at the weekend and the defensive unit as a collective has been impressive.

Kelvin Wilson says Nottingham Forest star frustrates him sometimes

It’s not been a season to remember just yet for Anthony Elanga.

The player signed from Manchester United for £15 million in the summer of 2023 and last season he scored five goals and claimed nine assists.

He did claim an assist on Sunday against Newcastle but ultimately he knows that he’s got to do more.

Elanga has blistering pace and Wilson has admitted that he’d like the player to go back to basics sometimes to get the better of his marker.

He told the Forest Focus podcast: “It’s frustrating when you play with players who are lightning quick and they don’t use it. It’s so frustrating.

“You think that you train against them all week and you think, ‘Listen if you do that on a Saturday, nobody is going to catch you’. It’s the most frustrating thing as a teammate.

“I think the quickest player I ever played with was Nathan Tyson and we always used to say to him, just knock it and run. They don’t realise how quick they are at times.

“He just needs to go on his own a bit more, he will get past nine out of 10 full-backs. He’s got a bit about himself, he’s got the final delivery – a great cross – he just needs to believe in himself.”

Remarkable Elanga stat showcases that he’s worth persisting with

Elanga isn’t in danger of being dropped by Forest any time soon.

Since the last international break, he’s been much improved and one thing he is bringing to the team is the ability to be dangerous from dead-ball situations.

Elanga is currently ahead of Raphinha and Luka Modric when it comes to taking corners and finding a teammate.

He’s outshining everyone in Europe when it comes to whipping those balls in and that is quite something considering how poor Forest were at set pieces last season.

In our view, Wilson makes a fantastic point though.

Elanga is comfortably the quickest player in the squad and hopefully, Espirito Santo can get him going back to basics after the international break and get him terrorising defenders once again.
