Chris Wood has been in remarkable form since Nuno Espirito Santo took over at Nottingham Forest, but he has taken that form to new heights this season.
The Kiwi striker has scored ten goals so far this season, with Wood breaking the Forest Premier League goals record in the win over Manchester United.
This form has led to constant praise for the Forest star. David Seaman compared Wood to Harry Kane, whilst Paul Scholes praised Wood as the surprise package of the Premier League season.
Wood will be hoping to continue his electric start to the season against Aston Villa on Saturday, who sit just below Forest in the Premier League table. Whilst Villa will fancy their chances, they will be aware of a surprising stat that shows just how impactful Wood has been against them in the past.

Chris Wood’s history of late goals against Aston Villa
As revealed by Sports Mole, Wood has a history of scoring goals against Aston Villa throughout his career, but only when they come beyond the 79th minute.
At Burnley, Wood salvaged a late draw for his side at Villa Park in 2019, repeating the same trick the season later as Burnley secured a 3-2 win at Turf Moor.
He has also haunted Villa in the Championship, scoring a late second for Leeds United in 2016 in a 2-0 victory against Villa.
Wood has yet to play against Villa in the red of Forest, with injuries preventing him thus far. However, the City Ground side hasn’t exactly required much in terms of late goals this season.
Forest haven’t needed Wood’s late goals this season
To their credit, Forest have yet to need to rely on late goals in their bright start to the Premier League season, much to the credit of the Forest squad’s ability to defend their leads.
The closest thing to a late recovery was in Forest’s draw with Brighton, where Ramon Sosa scored an 83rd-minute equaliser to earn his side a point.
Even last season, Forest’s routine home win against Villa was tied up long before the final minutes, whilst their 4-2 away defeat showed no signs of late drama.
It may not be something they’ve relied on so far, but the Nottingham Forest coaching staff will be grateful to have a secret weapon in Wood’s late goals in their pocket against Villa on Saturday.
