Nottingham Forest could be about to make another huge announcement after it was announced on Tuesday night that Murillo had penned a new contract with the club.

The Reds defender has been a revelation and has now been rewarded with an extension. He has signed a new deal which keeps him at the City Ground until 2029 to hand a blow to the world’s top clubs.

Murillo was fancied by four Premier League clubs in the summer. He was instrumental in helping Forest stay up last season and has been outstanding during the current campaign too.

Manchester City weighed up the signing of Murillo before he made the move to Forest. At £10.6 million, the reigning champions might now be wishing they’d tried a little bit harder to take him.

With transfer business not likely to be hectic this month, the Reds are clearly trying to tie down the current crop. Now, it appears as though Forest are on the verge of another big announcement.

Nottingham Forest set to make Chris Wood announcement

It’s been a long time coming but it looks like the talisman is here to stay. According to The Athletic, Wood – the scorer of 14 goals so far this season – has reached a breakthrough with Forest over a new two-year contract.

Wood moved to Forest for £15 million in January 2023. Initially, the move was met with a bit of a backlash from the fan base who felt he was way past his best and wondered what he’d actually bring to the Forest team.

However, he’s exceeded expectations at the City Ground. Wood is now the club’s all-time top goalscorer in the Premier League and ultimately, he’s proved absolutely everyone who dared to write him off wrong.

Wood is set to pen a two-year deal at the club with an announcement to come very soon. Wood has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia and the MLS but now it looks like his future will remain at the top level for two more years.

Forest need a striker to work in tandem with Wood

The fact that Wood is staying shouldn’t deter Forest in their quest for a new striker. At 33-years-old, the Reds player will still need rotating and right now, there are question marks over Taiwo Awoniyi’s form.

It’s no surprise that Forest want Matheus Cunha. It feels like a deal that could be done this month with question marks hanging over the future of the Wolves player.

There is also interest from Forest for Yoane Wissa. Wood is one of a few players who have scored more than the Brentford striker this season and he’d be another eye-catching signing.

Evangelos Marinakis wants to land a striker this month. However, with the January window notoriously difficult to do business, tying Wood down to a new deal might just be the best piece of business as far as this window is concerned.
