Nottingham Forest are hoping to sign an attacking player before the transfer window closes with the rumour mill starting to go into overdrive.
Evangelos Marinakis has made no secret of a desire to sign a forward. The owner is determined to get Forest into Europe and despite a 5-0 defeat to Bournemouth this weekend, the Reds are still third in the league.
Forest have been linked with Matheus Cunha. It’s claimed that the Reds have made him the club’s number one target for the window but it doesn’t feel like an easy deal to get done.
Yoane Wissa is also on the list for Forest. Like Cunha, he’s been in fine form this season and Thomas Frank has insisted that his main talisman won’t be departing this month.
Forest tried to sign a striker during the summer transfer but to no avail. Now, the club will hope to avoid disappointment this time around and get someone over the line before the deadline.

How Nottingham Forest now feel about Santiago Gimenez
Forest were rejected three times by Gimenez in the summer. For a little while, it looked like a deal would be struck but ultimately he chose to remain with Feyenoord and play Champions League football.
Last week he scored twice as Feyenoord stunned Bayern Munich. He’s on 15 goals for the season and that is more than Chris Wood so far this season – albeit in a league inferior to the Premier League.
Now, a top transfer journalist has claimed that Forest won’t be making any bids for Gimenez this month. It’s believed that Gimenez isn’t on the radar for Forest during this window and other targets will instead be pursued.
Marseille have shown an interest in Gimenez in January. However, it’s believed that AC Milan are the only club to show concrete interest in actually making a firm bid for the striker during this window.
Gimenez could be a priority Forest target this summer
It’s no surprise that Forest couldn’t tempt Gimenez last summer. The Reds have narrowly avoided relegation for two consecutive seasons but the landscape might change a little bit next summer.
Forest will likely improve their league position for 2024/25 and European football feels obtainable this season. If that is the case, perhaps players like Gimenez might decide that Forest is a viable place to come.
Gimenez might well have bigger clubs come calling in the summer transfer window. However, if Europe is on the agenda perhaps the prospect of landing someone like the 23-year-old will become a genuine target for Forest.
