Nottingham Forest opted to sign quality over quantity during the summer transfer window and are now reaping the rewards on the pitch.

Forest occupy third place in the Premier League despite losing 5-0 to Bournemouth on Saturday to end a run of eight matches without tasting defeat.

Evangelos Marinakis opened the purse string in the summer. Elliot Anderson arrived for £35 million and Nikola Milenkovic joined from Fiorentina in a deal worth £12 million, with both proving quality additions.

Marinakis would like a striker this month. Matheus Cunha has been linked with Forest but it does feel as though the Wolves player would be a complex deal to complete in just seven days.

David Carmo plays for Olympiacos against Panathinaikos

It’s fair to say there is little in the way of love lost between the two Greek giants and last night the pair locked horns once again at the home of Olympiacos.

Forest signed David Carmo during the summer and immediately loaned him out to Olympiacos. Last season, he was integral for the Greek giants as they became the first club from Greece to win a European trophy.

Carmo has penned a five-year contract at Forest. With that in mind, this doesn’t feel like the sort of deal that will have no benefit to the Reds and he should join for pre-season training in the summer.

Last night, Carmo was in the thick of the action as Olympiacos faced Panathinaikos. The two teams were meeting for the second time this season with a 0-0 draw taking place in October.

There was nothing to separate the sides again last night. Carmo opened the scoring for Olympiacos in the 14th minute of the contest but was then guilty of giving away the penalty that allowed Panathinaikos to equalise with 16 minutes remaining.

Carmo should be useful addition to Forest squad

Marinakis parted with £12 million from Forest’s kitty to sign Carmo. With Milenkovic, Murillo, Willy Boly and Morato in the squad this season it was perhaps anticipated that Carmo would be better served in Greece.

Next season should be different though. Boly will be out of contract and should move on, with Carmo likely to slot in and become another backup option from the bench.

Murillo has just penned a new contract with Forest. However, given his vast potential, there is a possibility that a club will come in with a massive fee and tempt Forest into a sale.

Carmo will almost certainly remain at Forest next season. At 25-years-old he fits the profile of a typical Reds signing from the past few transfer windows and it will be fascinating to see how he takes to English football.
