Transfer Deadline Day is upon us and Nuno Espirito Santo will be looking to be busy to ensure his Nottingham Forest squad is in the best place to secure European Football.

Forest have been silent throughout the January window so far, which may have come as a surprise to some fans as Evangelos Marinakis clearly wanted to sign a striker to support Chris Wood’s remarkable goalscoring output.

Attackers have been the centre of all of the rumoured incoming signings in January, with the Forest squad potentially lacking goals from out wide too despite Forest fans praising Anthony Elanga for his form since December.

The summer window saw the arrival of Elliot Anderson to bolster central midfield, while Nikola Milenkovic signed for Forest from Fiorentina to create an imperious spine for Espirito Santo’s side.

Any incoming on deadline day therefore would be to add attacking flair rather than solidity and Nottingham Forest News has all the rumours you need to know as we enter the final hours of the window.

Nottingham Forest’s potential transfer deadline day signings

The rumour that has dominated the news cycle has been Forest’s interest in Matheus Cunha. The Wolves talisman had yet to sign a new contract which led Forest to consider a club-record bid for Cunha, but the Brazilian did eventually pen a new deal at Wolves to rule out a January move.

An alternative to Cunha looks to be Brentford’s Yoane Wissa. Forest want Wissa as a steady goalscorer who can also play out wide, but again convincing a Premier League rival to part ways with their striker on deadline day could be difficult.

One player who would certainly signify Forest’s intentions to qualify for the Champions League would be Juventus’ Douglas Luiz. Forest are rivalling Manchester City for Luiz who has Premier League pedigree from his spell at Aston Villa, but City will be difficult to compete with.

Four players could still leave Nottingham Forest on deadline day

In terms of outgoings, one Forest star who has had doubts about his future under Espirito Santo is Taiwo Awoniyi. Everton have shown late interest in Awoniyi, but Forest will keep hold of the Nigerian striker unless one of their forward targets comes to fruition.

Lewis O’Brien looks destined to depart the City Ground after only just returning from a spell on loan in the MLS. A host of Championship clubs want to take O’Brien on loan with a deal likely to be simple given that it would suit all parties.

Another forgotten Forest star who looks set for a spell in the Championship is Emmanuel Dennis who is linked with a Watford return.
