What Nottingham Forest have planned for Joel Ndala as shock deadline day deal is announced

Nottingham Forest beat the deadline to submit details to confirm the loan capture of Joel Ndala from Manchester City, with an option to buy the winger at the end of the season.

Forest secured the signing of Ndala in a deal that had not been rumoured at all throughout deadline day, a rare feat on a speculation-fueled Monday as most expected that Forest wouldn’t complete any more signings.

However, the Ndala deal was also complimented by Forest’s capture of Tyler Bindon, in what became a busier deadline day than initially expected.

After David Ornstein ruled out Forest signing a striker, the Forest squad looked set to remain the same going into the remainder of the season, barring Emmanuel Dennis’ late loan to Blackburn Rovers.

With the signing of Ndala, Forest fans may have a new speedster to excite them at the City Ground in the coming months. A fresh report in the aftermath of deadline day has made it clear that supporters may need to ease any expectations on the 18-year-old.

Nottingham Forest’s move for Joel Ndala is one for the future

Whilst Forest fans will be excited about the shock of a late arrival, Ndala’s move to the club won’t necessarily be to the benefit of Nuno Espirito Santo just yet.

According to The Telegraph, Ndala is seen as a signing to benefit the Forest Academy for now, with the scope to become a first-team player should the option to buy be triggered.

The report said: “Manchester City’s teenage winger Joel Ndala arrived late in the day on an initial loan after cutting short his spell with PSV Eindhoven’s reserves, but his move is regarded as a signing for the academy.”

Even the official communications from the club have made it clear that Ndala is not expected to feature in the Forest first-team squad any time soon, with the official social media posts coming from the academy’s accounts.

Whilst initially underwhelming, the news that Ndala will feature for the academy instead will undoubtedly take pressure off the success of the deal, and further add value to it should he excel.

Nottingham Forest will be ready to secure Joel Ndala permanently

In the midst of the shock surrounding a transfer story coming out of the blue, Forest fans may have missed a key detail that makes the Ndala deal a potentially genius one by Evangelos Marinakis.

In Fabrizio Romano’s exclusive post about the signing, he details that Forest have a pre-arranged permanent deal “worth £4m plus 20% sell on to Manchester City” inserted into the loan. Even more crucially, though, the arrangement is completely optional.

This option is particularly crucial as if Ndala struggles to adapt to the club, the Forest owner will suffer no consequences as the loan will simply end. If he succeeds, though, he may live up to the words used to describe him by ESPN after his performances for England in the Under-17 World Cup in 2023.

ESPN described Ndala as: “Entertaining as well as productive, it’s only a matter of time before Ndala gets his first minutes at first-team level.”

If this description is in any way similar to reality, Marinakis will have pulled off a blinder with the option to buy Ndala for a bargain fee.
